'India of K-Town' documentary about Chicago teen

October 21, 2010 (CHICAGO)

The documentary by Chicago filmmaker Beverly Price tells India Meadows' story.

The adopted teen overcame a devastating past and now has a bright future because of a custom-made prom dress. It was created by successful designer Barbara Bates, who once struggled as a teenaged mother. Through her foundation, Bates provides prom wear for teens who cannot afford to buy it.

Bates' gift to India changed the girl's outlook on life.

The movie is being shown next Tuesday October 26, as a fundraiser for the Bates Foundation. The screening begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Icon theatre on Roosevelt Road in Chicago.
