The Illinois unemployment rate has dipped below 10 percent for the first time since April of last year. The 9.9 percent rate is still higher than the national average, but this is the sixth consecutive month that the Illinois unemployment rate has fallen.

New figures show the state added 8,600 jobs last month.

Most of those jobs were in the trade, transportation and utilities sectors.
