Group reinforces concussion-related dangers

The American Academy of Neurology says athletes both young and old who are suspected of suffering a concussion should be evaluated by a specialist before they return to sports.

The group says a concussion is not just a ding, but rather is an injury to the brain and needs to be treated as a big deal.

The conclusion follows research showing that professional football players suffering repeated concussions may have suffer long-term consequences including dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
