Child found dead in Bloomingdale home

November 3, 2010 (BLOOMINGDALE, Ill.)

Investigators collected evidence inside the home late Wednesday night. They say a 19-year-old relative happened to visit just after 1 p.m. and found the 4-year-old dead and an adult, possibly her mother, injured. Blood was splattered throughout the home.

"It does not appear to be random. It appears to be domestic-related. We are following up on all leads, but there's not an outsider offender that we are looking for at this time," said Frank Giammarese, Bloomingdale police chief.

Police say the child was pronounced dead and the adult was transported to a hospital. They are unable to confirm her condition or what type of weapon may have killed the girl.

Neighbors are stunned.

"When I first hear that two people were dead and that it was a little girl I just, I went, no, no, no, that's not right, no, no, because little girls don't need to die. Little kids don't need to die," said Kim Piedt, neighbor.

Bloomingdale police say while the matter is still under investigation, they consider the woman remained hospitalized Wednesday night a suspect and it is possible they could charge murder charges against her.
