Laura Wright has been fan-favorite ever since she joined the General Hospital cast as Carly Corinthos. But fans of the popular ABC soap may be surprised to see how she spends her free time.
Laura works in her family winery along with her husband two kids, Standing Sun Wines (www.standingsunwines.com) in California's Santa Ynez Valley. As the winery's chief taster and quality control manager, Wright has spent the last 20 years on Daytime television on such shows including The City, Guiding Light and General Hospital.
Wright was born in Washington D.C. and got an interest in acting in eighth grade. Wright performed in several plays in high school and appeared in local commercials and fashion shows.
Wright seriously considered a career in acting after auditioning for the daytime drama Loving. She played Ally Rescott Bowman on the show and carried the role over to the spin-off show The City.
Laura debuted on Guiding Light in 1997, playing the role of Cassie Layne for eight years. Wright won a 1998 Soap Opera Digest Award for Best New Character for that role.
Now on General Hospital, fans know Wright as Carly Corinthos. She plays the former wife of a mob boss and lives by her own rules. While she makes life miserable for those who've betrayed her, those closest to her have her undying loyalty. Carly has helped Sonny recover from a nervous breakdown, found and reconciled with her mother and built a career as a business woman.
You can meet Laura and learn about her wines on Saturday at Zanies Comedy Club in Vernon Hills, Ill. Wine tasting begins at 2 p.m. and Wright will meet with fans starting at 3 p.m. Tickets are $70 plus a two item food/beverage minimum. For tickets, call (847) 549-6030 or visit www.zanies.com.
