A man has been charged in connection with the kidnapping of a cab driver on Chicago's North Side.

Police say Roderick Swoopes, 27, of Calumet City, hailed a cab at Racine and Clybourn Monday and asked to be taken to 64th and King Drive. When he arrived at the destination, Swoopes allegedly pulled out a gun, demanded the driver's wallet and cell phone, and forced the driver into the trunk.

Investigators say the driver called 9-1-1 from the trunk with a second cell phone.

Police caught up with the taxi and arrested Swoopes.

Swoopes is charged with one count each of armed robbery with a firearm, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated vehicular hijacking.
