At their meeting Wednesday morning, Chicago City Council members will consider a proposal that would dramatically increase fines for possession and sale of sulfuric acid and other caustic liquids.

Two women who were disfigured in acid attacks spoke before the city council earlier this week.

Esperanza Medina and Karli Butler want tougher penalties for people who use acid as a weapon.

The Illinois Retail Merchant's Association has expressed concern that restrictions may impact the business of companies that sell products containing sulfuric acid.
