Gardasil may prevent anal cancer

November 17, 2010 (CHICAGO)

Gardasil is currently approved to prevent cervical cancer in girls and young women and to prevent genital warts in boys and men.

Actress Farrah Fawcett brought attention to anal cancer after making a documentary detailing her struggle and eventual death.

A ruling by the Food and Drug Administration is expected by the end of 2010 on Gardasil's use for preventing anal cancer and for preventing cervical cancer in women ages 27 to 45.
