Study: Lower cancer risk from radiation than previous estimates

The added cancer risk from undergoing state of the art heart scans may be lower than previously thought.

The new study presented to the Radiological Society of North America analyzed over 10 million Medicare records. The findings show a significantly lower cancer risk from the radiation exposure than previous estimates.

Researchers say regardless of the disparities the increased reliance on CTA scans underscores the importance of monitoring of CT use and its effects.
