FDA re-examining mercury dental fillings

Food and Drug Administration officials said that while there are no new scientific findings, it wants to feed back on methods used last year to determine the metal fillings are safe.

The agency says it will ask its panel of outside experts to assess how much mercury dental patients are exposed to and how much is acceptable.

Next week a public meeting on the issue will take place.

Millions of Americans have had cavities in their teeth patched with dental amalgam.
