Preckwinkle discusses tax hike, other county issues

December 11, 2010 (EVANSTON, Ill.)

Preckwinkle joined Cmsr. Larry Sufferdin in his Evanston office Saturday, along with Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl and some business owners to talk about the impact of the sales tax hike and to plan for the future.

"We are trying to understand how we put together a combined economic plan that is more than just taxes, the other things the president's office can do to encourage a Cook County economic development plan for retail businesses and jobs in this county," Suffredin said.

The 1-percent sales tax increase has already been rolled back by .5-percent. Preckwinkle has vowed to finish rolling it back with .25-percent decreases in 2012 and 2013.
