Hyundai and Kia Motors shared the top spot for safety in a series of crash tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Volkswagen and Audi also scored well among the cars and SUVs, receiving the agency's highest rating. Ford, General Motors and Toyota also fared well.
A total of 66, 2011 models received the highest safety rating, which is more than double the number that got the highest marks last year.
