Police conduct New Year's Day safety checks

Chicago police kept an eye out to make sure the new year started off safely.

They started conducting roadside safety checks in the 4500-block of West Madison.

Officers slowed down traffic and stopped cars at regular intervals. At least one person was arrested.

They were looking for drivers who showed signs of alcohol impairment as well as other violations. The safety checks ended at 4 a.m. Sunday.
