NTSB: American Airlines can't join in plane probe

January 3, 2011 (CHICAGO)

A plane from O'Hare went off the runway last Wednesday in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. No one was hurt.

The NTSB says American Airlines improperly downloaded flight data recorder information before turning it over to government investigators. The NTSB believes no information was missing or altered, but says the download was "a breach of protocol."

American Airlines says it downloaded the data as part of its normal safety investigation.
