The Cook County Board honored a suburban man Wednesday for being a hero.

"I try every day, I work hard so I'll continue that and make sure I'd do it again in a second if I had the opportunity," said Jason McDaniel.

Last month, McDaniel had walked in on a robbery at a tanning salon in Orland Park.

McDaniel confronted Gary Amaya. He was able to disarm Amaya. There was a struggle and Amaya was shot and killed.

Amaya's gun was traced to the "honeybee" shootings in October which left one person dead and two other wounded.
