Two men in armored car robbery have criminal records

Two men that police say were involved in a botched armored car robbery on the city's west side last friday committed similar robberies together more than 20 years ago.

Fifty-two year old Jimmy Townsend was killed, 49 year old Robert Cary is charged in his murder, attempted armed robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Both men were shot by security guards.

Cary is recovering in the hospital.

Court records obtained by the Chicago Tribune show both men were convicted of two counts of armed robbery in 1990 and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
