A Chicago alderman wants the city to buy new snow-fighting equipment.

Alderman Leslie Hairston, 5th Ward, wants smaller, more flexible equipment which can get into smaller places. She says if the city owns this equipment it won't have to spend money hiring outside companies to do the work.

Hairston argues that certain wards get better snow removal than others because the city doesn't have adequate snow removal equipment.

She also wants the city to use beet juice to help melt the snow. Some suburbs already use it.
