Illinois is getting more than $1 million in federal funding to help deal with a tree-killing pest.

The emerald ash borer has already killed tens of millions of ash trees in North America.

Illinois has about 130 million ash trees.

20 percent of trees in Chicago are ash trees.

Senator Dick Durbin announced 58 communities across the Chicago area and the state will use the money for costs associated with combating the destructive beetle.
