Gov. Pat Quinn has requested federal assistance for 60 Illinois counties affected by this month's blizzard.

Quinn's office estimates costs related to storm response and recovery could top $64 million.

Cook, Will, DuPage and Lake counties are among those Gov. Quinn wants to be declared disaster areas.

If approved, local governments could be reimbursed for 75 percent of eligible expenses.

Quinn also requested a 'snow storm declaration' for 43 counties to help them recover the costs of snow removal.
