Robert Deters, 75, was crossing the street Friday in the 1600-block of North Kimball Avenue when he was struck. The driver sped away.
Deters died at Stroger Hospital. Police located the driver and the vehicle.
Vance Baines, 38, is charged with failure to reduce speed, operating a motor vehicle without insurance and failure to render aid or give information following the crash.
