An innovative immune boosting treatment might help some people with advanced colon cancer.

Doctors found, by giving more intensive chemotherapy along with drugs designed to boost the body's own immune system, they were able to double survival time for patients with advanced colorectal cancer.

That was compared to patients receiving standard chemotherapy alone.

It proved so beneficial that the trial was stopped early because of the promising findings.

The information was presented at the American Association for Cancer Research meeting in Orlando.
