Chicago moves up in allergy rankings

April 12, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The Windy City is once again becoming the sneezing city according to allergist Joseph Leija.

The Gottlieb doctor performs the official allergy count for the Midwest.

So far tree pollen is already unseasonably high.

Many patients are now complaining of itchy throats and runny nose.

The latest rankings from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America show Chicago's allergy season getting worse.

Out of 100 cities, Chicago moves from 83 to 78 as the worst place to live with spring allergies.

To help minimize symptoms doctors recommend limited outdoor activity when pollen counts are high, using air conditioning indoors when counts are high, and wearing a filter mask when gardening or mowing the lawn.
