The Illinois House passed a resolution Thursday launching a probe by the Illinois auditor general.
The resolution comes after a recent audit accused those in charge of the tuition program of not following sound business practices when it hired a California firm for investment advice.
More than 55,000 families are relying on the tuition program to fund their children's college educations.
