Police say a woman was attacked in the 200-block of South Harvey Avenue in Oak Park Tuesday night. The description of the suspect in this fourth Oak Park robbery is similar to a sketch released in the other recent incidents, police said.

Oak Park police are urging people, especially women, to be cautious after the late-night robberies of female residents. Police are stepping up surveillance in the area where the four muggings have occurred, according to a release.

In the most recent robbery, the victim was approached from behind after parking her car in her garage around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19. She was grabbed around the neck by the suspect, as in the other three muggings. The suspect got away with a small bag.

In this incident, the offender did not say anything and neighbors reported seeing a man enter a light-colored Ford SUV on Pleasant Street.

The three other attacks took place between 11:40 p.m. and 12:45 a.m. in the nearby Lake Street corridor:

  • March 30 in the 200-block of Lake Street
  • April 2 near Lake Street and Austin Boulevard;
  • and April 4 in the 200-blcok of North Oak Park Avenue.
  • No one was seriously injured in any of the muggings.

    The suspect is described as an African-American male in his 20s, 5'10" to 6' tall. Police created a computer-generated composite image of the suspect from one victim's description.

    Police cannot say for sure all four robberies are linked, but similarities suggest they may be, officials said in a news release.
