The Nintendo Wii is heading for retirement.

Nintendo says it will replace the Wii, once considered the cutting edge of video game technology, with a new system in 2012.

Nintendo has sold more than 86 million units of the Wii since its launch in 2006. But sales have slowed in the past two years.

Nintendo says it will reveal the new system at the E3 expo in Los Angeles in early June.
