Once the new Chicago City Council is reorganized it looks like the council's most powerful alderman will keep his post.

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that 14th Ward Alderman Ed Burke will remain as chair of the influential finance committee.

City Hall watchers had speculated that Burke was on the outs after he campaigned for Gerry Chico, Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel's opponent during the election.

The council's top aldermen have been negotiating who would be in charge of the various committees. They're expected to announce the new assignments next week.
