Pleger still helps out at church while suspended

May 7, 2011 (CHICAGO)

He was at the South Side church Saturday morning, distributing free frozen chickens to those in need. Pfleger was joined by church members and people from the Health, Education & Relief, or HEAR Foundation.

He said there is a great need for food because of the high unemployment rate in the neighborhood.

Cardinal Francis George suspended Pfleger late last month over statements the pastor made regarding a possible transfer to Leo High School.

When ABC7 asked Pfleger what has helped him get through this controversial period, he responded: "My faith and the people are my strength."

Plfeger said he is blessed and that many people are praying for him. He did not say how he thinks this matter might be resolved.
