A new study published in ''Obstetrics and Gynecology'' finds that hot flashes may last a decade or more.

The research also found that women who start getting hot flashes before menopause, or in the early stages of menopause, will have them longer than women who don't have their first hot flashes until later.

The assumption has been that hot flashes last about four to five years. The findings raise the question of what the best treatments are for hot flashes.
