NewsViews: Chicago Teachers Union Pres. Karen Lewis

May 8, 2011 (CHICAGO)

But will teachers work an extra hour or two a day without extra compensation?

Should we expect them to do so?

And, with the city, state, and federal governments facing big deficits, where would that compensation come from?

In this edition of NewsViews, we'll ask the Chicago Teachers Union president about these and other important education issues.

The city's 30,000 teachers elected Karen Lewis their president last May. She is a 22-year chemistry teacher who is also vice president of the American Federation of Teachers. And she's executive vice president of the Illinois Federation of Teachers.
