More about Hubbard Street (release)

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, critically acclaimed for its exuberant, athletic and innovative repertoire, will conclude one of the most successful seasons in its history with a distinctive beginning – the Company Premiere of Following the Subtle Current Upstream choreographed by LINES Ballet Artistic Director Alonzo King; as well as the return of master choreographer Jirí Kylián's powerful and striking 27'52" and a revival of Untouched, a spellbinding work created for the company by illustrious choreographer Aszure Barton.

A leading contemporary dance organization for more than 30 years, Hubbard Street has created a unique collaborative forum between cultural organizations around the world. Hubbard Street Artistic Director Glenn Edgerton initiated this opportunity for Alonzo King and dancers from both companies in order to stretch their artistic limits and experience each other's varied specializations –LINES Ballet's neo-classical focus and Hubbard Street's contemporary style. These two different types of dancers will present King with an opportunity to create a diversified work that highlights each dancer's own unique talents and will provide a rewarding artistic and professional development opportunity for members of both companies. Along with presenting an artistic development experience for Alonzo King and dancers, Hubbard Street views this commission as an important opportunity to diversify the repertoire and audience for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. King is known for drawing inspiration for his works from diverse cultural traditions. He combines classical ballet with a variety of other styles, highlighting the emotional nuances of movement. Based on the success of this collaboration, Hubbard Street hopes to use it as a model for future collaborations with other dance companies.
