Residents can join in U.S. Postal Service food drive

May 14, 2011 (CHICAGO)

"Stamp Out Hunger" marks its 19th year of collecting food donations to feed the hungry this weekend, and Chicago-area residents can help by leaving a bag of non-perishable food items or canned goods by their mailboxes Saturday.

Letter carriers will deliver the donations to area food banks and other hunger relief organizations.

Organizers hope to exceed last year's record-setting total of 77 million lbs. of donated food.
