Preacher and Family Radio Network host Harold Camping is predicting "the rapture" or Judgment Day will happen Saturday at 6 p.m. Chicago time. He has been predicting the world's end would come on May 21, 2011 for years but his idea has gained recent notoriety, in part because of billboards posted around the country.
"The whole world will know instantly that judgment day has begun," Camping said.
"The apostle John himself was very confident he was living in the end times. We've been in the end times for 2000 years," said Professor Jeremy Grinnell with Cornerstone Theological Seminary.
The doomsday prediction has some people planning "rapture parties." An atheist group in Seattle, Wash., is taking up tongue-in-cheek collections for those who are left behind.
