Worker injured in acid leak at Morris plant

May 23, 2011 (MORRIS, Ill.)

Officials say about 100 gallons of hydrochloric acid leaked from a 200-gallon tote inside Thornton Industries.

The acid covered a 30-square foot concrete area within the plant.

The injured worker is being treated for skin contact after he was exposed to the acid.

Hazardous materials teams got all other workers out of the plant safely and made sure the acid did not get into drains or sewers.
