Cpl. Rees O'Donnell returned to Crystal Lake about two weeks ago. He told his mom he didn't want anything big but Saturday evening, members of the Warriors Watch Riders showed up to thank O'Donnell for his service.
They were joined by local police and firefighters, along with members of the community. O'Donnell called the surprise "Pretty awesome," and he talked about the significance of it happening during the holiday.
"It's important to remember that people have made the ultimate sacrifice. And people have lost limbs and they're coming back and they need that support, they need people to be there for them like people were here for me today. They need that," O'Donnell said.
O'Donnell has served two tours in Afghanistan. He plans to return to civilian life this fall.
