Deadly Memorial Day violence erupts across city

The most recent shooting took place at approximately 4 a.m. Tuesday when a 40-year-old man was shot and killed in the area of the Golden Girls Lounge in the 1300-block of West 87th Street near Ada.

In the city's Chatham neighborhood, a 27-year-old man was killed trying to protect his girlfriend, authorities said. Police say the man's girlfriend was being attacked by several females, and when he intervened, a group of males approached and shot him several times in the 7600-block of South Eberhart.

A second 27-year-old man and an unidentified person were killed in two shootings in the city's Englewood area. There has been no word on any arrests in the shootings.

Another shooting happened near the beach at 57th Street and Lake Shore Drive. A 22-year-old woman was shot during a fight. She was in critical condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital Tuesday morning.

No arrests have been made in the shootings.
