Brizard talks about schools, budgets

June 1, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Jean-Claude Brizard stopped by ABC7 News This Morning to discuss his current listening tour of schools

Brizard says the tour will continue through the summer. And he hopes to have a report ready by August.

"I really am about supporting principals and teachers. Our job as central administration officers is to flip the pyramid upside down to make sure people know that they have to support teachers because they are on the front line of this work," said Brizard.

He also discusses the city's budget deficit.

"It's over $700 million. We've got to do some changes to balance the budget, but the fact is, we don't look to slash and burn, we look to reinvest as much as possible."

The school board approved Brizard as the new CEO last week. He held a similar position in Rochester, New York previously.
