The Chicago Police Department is getting a new second in command.

Mayor Emanuel announced Wednesday that deputy chief of detectives Al Wysinger has been named first deputy superintendent. That job had been eliminated under former superintendent Jody Weis.

Wysinger had been considered for superintendent. But that appointment, which still needs City Council approval, went to Garry McCarthy.
