New UIC children's hospital has grand opening

June 13, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The dedication ceremony included families of those who will get care there.

The facility is a children's hospital within a hospital. It has more than a hundred beds. And it includes what its doctors are calling 10 Centers of Excellence. These will specialize in treating kids with illnesses such as sickle cell anemia, diabetes and cancer.

"That's our commitment, that we will provide state-of-the-art, committed, compassionate family centered care to everybody who comes to us," said _Dr. Usha Raj, physician-in-chief.

The hospital says it will take particular care to address the disparities in health care faced by the poor.
