One-hundred churches in Chicago have partnered with the public school system to provide Safe Havens for children who will not be in class this summer.

Chicago Public Schools' CEO Jean-Claude Brizard says the Safe Haven, Safe Summer program will provide an estimated 5,000 young people with various programs and activities.

The initiative will run weekdays from 10 in the morning until 2 in the afternoon from June 27 through August 5.

Neighborhood churches are sending out notices to parents to alert them about registration.
