Quinn to proclaim 'Juneteenth' in Illinois

Friday at the Thompson Center in downtown Chicago, Governor Pat Quinn will proclaim Juneteenth in Illinois.

The day is set aside to remember the end of slavery in America.

Juneteenth traces its history back to the day that slaves in Galveston, Texas learned the American Civil War had ended and they were free.

Officially, the anniversary is June 19th.
