Brizard: CPS teachers should make home visits

June 23, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Brizard, speaking at a news conference with Mayor Rahm Emanuel, suggested CPS teachers and staff should be assigned home visits to about 10 students each. About 430,000 students are enrolled in Chicago public schools.

Brizard also said he wants to expand the CPS school year by holding class on current teacher professional development days.

The Chicago Teachers Union has not weighed in on the suggestions.

Last week, the Chicago School Board voted to rescind on raises for CPS teachers. That decision has been met with protests.
