Cut City Council by half, Civic Federation suggests

The Civic Federation is out with its list of recommendations to help improve the City of Chicago's long-term fiscal condition.

Among the cost-cutting suggestions is cutting the City Council in half from 50 to 25 members. That's a move the federation argues would reduce the city's overhead by at least $6.5 million.

The agency suggests privatizing Midway Airport to save money as well as doing away with an elected clerk and treasurer.

City officials have yet to comment on the recommendations by The Civic Federation.
