Stay hydrated over Fourth of July

July 1, 2011

Whether at home or traveling, don't let a trip to the emergency room spoil a holiday. ER physicians say they see an increase in patients who suffer from dehydration. They suggest drinking plenty of water and limiting alcohol and caffeine.

Food borne illness is another culprit -- wash your hands often when preparing your meal. Also refrigerate leftovers right within an hour to keep bacteria from growing.

And, overheating from too much sun is a real threat. So wear light, loose-fitting clothing, a wide-brim hat, sunglasses and sun block.
