Part of Joffrey season canceled amid labor talks

July 4, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The previous contract with the American Guild of Musical Artists expired midnight Thursday. The SunTimes say sticking points include salary increases and an increase in rehearsal time. Dancers have been informed that they must clean out their lockers and turn in their keys by this Thursday.

The company has scheduled performances in August at the blossom festival in Cleveland and the Chicago Dance Festival. The Joffery Ballet's regular subscription season begins in October.

Dancer Fabrice Calmels told ABC7 he's concerned that the dancers weren't aware of the consequences of not meeting the Joffrey's negotiating deadline.
