Bank of America says a fire at its branch in the Loop was caused by a defective machine used to spot counterfeit money.

The bank says the fire March 6 caused about $1 million damage.

The Chicago Tribune reports Bank of America is suing the machine's maker, Hilton Trading Corporation of Miami. The company has declined comment.

The bank was closed at the time of the fire.
