United flight diverted to remove unruly passenger

July 9, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport spokeswoman Jackie Mayo says the passenger acted suspiciously Friday night and would not comply with the flight crew's request to settle down. So, the pilot decided to land, and the passenger and his baggage were removed.

The flight landed in Cleveland at about 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Mayo did not know if the man had been charged and was not aware of any injuries. She also said other passengers stayed onboard and police dogs swept the plane as a precaution. The plane was cleared to take off by 7 p.m.

An FBI spokesman says the agency is investigating.
