Jaycee Dugard opens up to ABC News' Diane Sawyer

July 10, 2011 (NEW YORK)

Dugard was just 11 when she was kidnapped by convicted sex offender Phillip Garrido and his wife. During her time in captivity, Dugard became pregnant and gave birth to two children.

In an exclusive interview with ABC News' Diane Sawyer, Dugard says she felt that escaping 'wasn't an option.' She says she might have taken action if one her daughters was being hurt.

"They were safe. I was being told the outside world was dangerous," Dugard said in the interview. "I couldn't protect them out there. It's like what I knew was safe; the unknown that was out there was terrifying, especially when thinking about the girls."
