Chicago woman shot, killed near Dominican U.

Two men were in police custody being questioned as of 6:30 a.m., but no charges have been filed.

The two men are from Chicago, according to River Forest police. They were picked up in a gray car at Harlem and Madison after a witness reported the car fleeing from the scene of the shooting.

The shooting happened about 10:22 p.m. near the campus of Dominican. Police say the woman was in her car. Paramedics tried to save her life, but she died from multiple gunshot wounds. She has been identified as Chervon Alexander from the 1300 block of North Mayfield in Chicago. It is unclear how she knew her attackers.

"On a hot night like this, there are with a bunch of people out here. As far as her reasons for being here, it is still under investigation," said Sgt. Jim O'Shea, River Forest Police Dept.

Police say they recovered a weapon from the suspected shooters' car after spotting the car about four minutes after the shooting. Police say that the two men in custody will be charged. They are also questioning another person of interest in the case.

This is the first homicide in River Forest since 2005.
