1957 Sycamore murder suspect's records destroyed in fire

July 12, 2011 (ST. LOUIS, Ill.)

An archivist said Tuesday that former police officer Jack Daniel McCullough's Air Force file was destroyed in a fire at the federal repository storage unit in 1973. McCullough had said those records would prove he had a medical examination in Chicago on December 3, 1957, the day Maria Ridulph, 7, disappeared in Sycamore, Ill.

None of McCullough's records survived, according to archivist Ken Cowan. McCullough went by the name of John Tessier.

McCullough was arrested in the case in June in Seattle. He's being held on a fugitive charge pending the return to Illinois.
