Police found the boy Tuesday morning on West 91st Street.
He was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in southwest suburban Oak Lawn.
Chicago police say they are still trying to figure out how the shooting happened.
The boy is believed to be a Chicago Public Schools student.
